C-Section Tips - Part
4
Cesarean
Section (C-Section) Procedure
The Cesarean Section Procedure is major
abdominal surgery but with regards to having a baby
it is painless to the mother and quite easy for the
baby. There's not much for a mother to do except
relax and enjoy it if she
can.
There won't be much for you to do. The
big concern for the hospital staff is to keep you as
comfortable as they can. They will draw a sheet in front
of you so you cannot see the surgery itself but if that
is a problem for you and you want to see make sure you
let your doctor know.
It gets very cold in the delivery
rooms. It keeps everyone awake I guess :-) If you
get cold, ask for a heated blanket. They often have them
on hand but don't usually give you one unless you ask for
it.
Many operating rooms will allow
music to be played. Find out if your hospital can play
music during your surgery. This can help you relax and
concentrate on something less
stressful.
Ask your anesthesiologist
to let you know every step of the way what is going on or
if your DH is there
ask him to give you a blow by blow of what is
happening.
The procedure itself takes
about a half an hour. If this is a subsequent c-section
it may take a little longer.
Once the baby has been born
she will be taken away to be cleaned up while the doctor
delivers the after-birth and stitches you up. Once that
is over the baby will be brought back to you. At this
time most women will begin breastfeeding.
Typically the baby is given to
Dad while you are monitored in recovery. This can take about
1-2 hours.
Warmest Regards,
Elizabeth
